Can we talk about routines for a second?
Not the Pinterest kind. Not the ones with color-coded planners and a hot breakfast on the table by 7. The real kind. The kind that actually work when you have a toddler, a baby, and approximately zero extra hours in your day.
Because here’s what I’ve learned: it’s not about doing more. It’s about finding tiny anchors that keep you from completely losing it.
The Coffee Trick That Changed My Mornings
I moved my Keurig next to my bed.
I know. Revolutionary. But now when my alarm goes off, I hit start before my feet even hit the floor. The smell alone helps me wake up, and I get a few sips in before the kids are up. Do I finish the whole cup? Absolutely not. But those two sips of quiet? They’re mine.
The 26-Minute Nap (NASA Approved)
During nap time I set a timer for 26 minutes and lay down. NASA actually says that’s the ideal nap length — long enough to rest, short enough that you don’t wake up groggy. I drink a bottle of water first so when the timer goes off, nature makes sure I don’t just hit snooze. It works every time.
Laundry on My Terms
I used to try to do laundry every single day and it was defeating me. Seeing it as an endless cycle made me dread it. Now I wash on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, and put clothes away the next day. That’s it. Less pressure means it actually gets done — and put away.
A bonus? My toddler now helps carry the towels to where they go. Are they folded perfectly? No. Do I care anymore? Also no.
One Less Stressful Dinner
Once a week I throw something in the crockpot. That one day where dinner is just handled — no scrambling, no stress — genuinely carries me through the rest of the week.
You don’t need a perfect routine. You need a few small things that are yours.
If you’re looking for more ways to slow down and make space for what matters — even in the chaos — the Mom’s Life Reflection Journal was made for exactly this season. Two quiet minutes a day, just for you.
