Love Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect — Even on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and for moms of toddlers and babies, the pressure can feel real. Cards, crafts, candy, “magical moments” — it’s enough to make anyone’s head spin. But here’s the truth: love doesn’t need to be Pinterest-perfect to be meaningful.

Tiny Moments, Big Love

The other day, my toddler and my baby were showing off their protective little sibling instincts. I was cleaning the baby’s room while they both wanted my attention. My toddler, who usually never stays quiet for naps, insisted on keeping the baby in the room while he rested — just so they could nap “together.”

Even though it was chaotic, it was also a sweet reminder: love grows in small, messy, everyday moments, not in grand gestures. Valentine’s Day can be like that too — a chance to notice and appreciate the tiny ways your family shows love.

Ditch the Stress

You don’t need to make elaborate decorations or plan a perfect day. A simple breakfast together, a short walk, a shared story, or even just a quiet hug counts. Love is already happening in those messy, loud, beautiful minutes.

This goes for your marriage too. I try to remember that showing love to my husband doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as pausing mid-chaos to share a coffee, a laugh, or a quick hug while the kids play nearby. Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to add pressure — it’s just an extra little reminder to notice the love that’s already there.

Celebrate What You’re Doing

This Valentine’s Day, celebrate yourself as well. Loving, caring, and juggling the chaos of kids and home is a lot — and you’re doing it every single day. Those small acts of patience, laughter, and attention matter. Your kids see it. Your partner sees it. And most importantly, you see it too.
